The Funniest Moments from the Winter Olympics 2018 (So Far)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

The Winter Olympics 2018 have been all the rage in the past week. Apart from the outstanding athletic ability demonstrated by participants in the various winter sporting events, this year’s Games have brought us some pretty hilarious moments that have made them all the more memorable!

Raining Pooh Bears

After crushing both his short program and freestyle skate, Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu was showered with Winnie the Pooh teddy bears while still on the ice. The now two-time gold medalist is a major celebrity in Japan. After fans noticed that he uses a Pooh-themed tissue box cover at the rink, the fictional character became his unofficial mascot. In keeping up with this tradition, Hanyu actually donates bags full of these Pooh bears to local charities in the places where he competitively skates!

“Holy F*ck”

American snowboarder Red Gerard couldn’t contain himself after winning the gold medal in the slopestyle event, accidentally letting a f-bomb slip on TV. Thanks NBC for not editing this out!

Condom Drama

American figure skater Adam Rippon took to Instagram to rant about the Olympic condom selection. Long been rumored to be colored like the Olympic rings, Rippon was distraught to learn that it was all a myth. “I’m not like, upset. I’m just like, disappointed,” he says in the clip reposted on Twitter.

Stress Knitting?

Finnish snowboarding coach Antti Koskinen was caught on camera calmly knitting while his athletes prepared to hit the slopes. He did this back in 2014 at the Sochi Olympics as a joke, so we’re guessing he’s decided to make it a tradition.

The Winter Olympics 2018 still have a couple more events to go before the Games come to a close for the next four years. In the meantime, we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for any more giggle-inducing incidents!
