A Wellness Guide from Me to You

As we approach the end of the semester and life gets a little more stressful, here are some tips on self-care and mental wellness.

1. Bring brightness back into your life

Seasonal affective disorder is a very real and serious disorder backed by medical journals for decades and it consists of a simple idea: your mood turns grey when the sky does. It is most notably during rainy days and especially wintertime. It is difficult to go through exams and papers when the sky is dark and your mood is low so the best thing is changing the environment. Bring light into your room, set up bright colours, make an effort to lighten things up around you if there is no sun out.

2. Take a break

Your school work will be there in fifteen minutes and it will be there in an hour. Forcing yourself to work does not make it better or easier to deal with, and the best thing to do is relax for a moment and clear your head. It is in moments of silence that our best idea may present itself so do not be afraid to eat something or flip through Twitter. You may have inspiration strike!

3. Get help

I have said this in the previous guide and I will most likely say it in every guide because it is a struggle of many individuals, mentally ill or not. As it turns out a lot more people are willing to suffer in silence than loudly ask for help when they need it, only reaching out when things get out of control. Do not wait until the last second to ask for something in any regard. If you know that you need someone right now, go to them. You will never regret it.
