Why We Love Simone Biles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

Simone Biles is the passionate and fierce 20-year-old gymnast who led the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics team to win gold at the 2016 Rio Summer Games. Besides being the most decorated American gymnast of all time, with 19 Olympic and World championship medals under her belt, she also went on to become a New York Times best-selling author with her autobiography, Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, a Life in Balance, and a competitor on Dancing with the Stars. However, that’s not all that there is to love about Simone! Here’s more to love about Simone:

  1. She’s a Zac Efron fan.
  2. She was the shortest Olympic athlete to compete at the Rio Olympics.
  3. She’s 4 feet 9 inches.
  4. She’s the first female gymnast to win 3 world all-around titles in a row.
  5. She’s the first African-American gymnast to become the world all-around champion.
  6. She’s scared of bees.
  7. She’s the owner of four German Shepards.
  8. She loves pizza.
  9. She verbally committed to UCLA in 2014.
  10. She was the first American female gymnast to carry the American flag during the closing ceremony.
