Meet Justin Chan!

Justin Chan is a Sophomore at Rutgers New Brunswick from Whippany, New Jersey. He’s a Comp Science Major under the School of Arts of Sciences. Justin is in the Honors College, a member of the Undergraduate Student Alliance of Comp Sci and Rutgers Chapter National Association of American Professionals. He’s also an Honors College Ambassador! He plays Chess, Badminton, and used to play Tennis and the Trumpet.

1. Why did you choose to go to Rutgers?

Well, besides getting a scholarship, I also chose it because of its location. Compared to other schools that I was looking at, which are practically in the middle of nowhere, Rutgers is located near cities like New York and Philadelphia. There’s just a lot more going on here. Also, the Honors College was really welcoming, a lot more welcoming than other schools, which made me feel like I could have had a purpose being here.

2. Why are you studying Comp Sci?

After experimented with the code on a Pokemon simulator, I realized that I enjoyed working with code and creating things with code. Coding, to me, is like solving puzzles. I like being able to put all the pieces together and seeing the result of bringing the pieces all together. It’s satisfying.

3. Is there anything that you want to try out at Rutgers before you graduate?

I haven’t gone to a sports game at Rutgers yet, so I would really like to go to a Rutgers Football game or Basketball game before I graduate.

4. Do you have any advice you’d give to Rutgers freshmen?

Remember why you’re in college. You can’t be failing your classes because at the end of the day you’re going to college to get an education. Even though you can have fun or do fun stuff, don’t do too much fun stuff because if you fall behind it’ll be hard to catch up. So, definitely stay on top of things.

5. If you could live in any universe (book, movie, video game, tv show, etc.) where would you live and why?

I would probably live in the Percy Jackson series. I find mythology interesting. I also think it would be cool if people got their own superpowers.
