I was Snowed-In at an All-Male Residence Hall during Winter Storm Jonas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

On January 23, 2016, at around 3:30AM, I hopped out of the bus, and trudged through the snow to Davidson B. I had decided two hours ago that I would sleep over at my boyfriend’s dorm, but because of the falling snow, the weekend bus could only go at a whopping speed of about 10 miles per hour.

The next morning, I checked the Rutgers app only to find out that there were no buses running. That’s when I knew I was snowed in.

This is my story.

We decided to go with his friends to make the trek to the Busch’s dining hall. While we were bundling up, his guy friends came over to wait for us. They joked around as we layered and told us how they threw snow in the shower on their other friend.

Trekking through the snow is no joke, regardless of height and stature. We made it to the dining hall and back. But when we came back, a bunch of dudes were in the field of snow together. Playing football. One guy was in a hoodie and shorts. It was still snowing at this point.

When we entered the dorm however, we were faced with a bunch of guys stripped down to boxers. What were they getting ready to do? Go into the snow. So eventually, I witnessed them come back from their dive in the snow, very red and covered in snow.

Later that day, I hear a story about how a friend had a really large banana. He took it and put it under his pants and approached another guy. He told the guy to close his eyes and stretch out his hand. Then he takes the hand and puts it on the banana. The other guy flips out angrily until he realizes he touched a cleverly disguised fruit.

We had enough food at the dorm for dinner, but when everyone decided to order Chinese food, my boyfriend and I decided to jump in too. However, to our dismay, we learned that the Chinese restaurant was not delivering to Busch campus. We gave up and settled for ramen and sandwiches for the night.
An hour later, we heard that a few guys were walking back from Livingston. Why? The restaurant would deliver to Livingston, so they hiked all the way there, got the food, and were on their way back. It was the best news I heard all day. When they arrived with the food, it was still hot. Fried rice never tasted so good.

The next day, the sun was shining and the buses were running again. My time at Davy was over and I will probably never experience anything like that again. I will not miss using the men’s bathroom, but I will always reminisce fondly about my time in Davy B.
