April Reign is a social activist who may be best known for being the creator of the #OscarsSoWhite, which has pushed and continues to push the Academy and the entertainment industry to not only give more opportunities and nominations to people of color in casting, production, and direction. However, she is also the Senior Director of Marketing of Fractured Atlas, the country’s largest non-profit organization for arts service, and the creator and co-creator of a number of other hashtags such as #WOCAffirmation#ReignyDayJobs, and #NoConfederate. She’s a digital leader on platforms such as Vine and Twitter, which allow her to speak her mind, spark conversation on topics that matter to her such as marginalization, racism, and discrimination, and empower and encourage her followers. Her ability to speak her mind may be due to her 20 years working as a lawyer in Washington, D.C., which she walked away from because she was no longer happy with the work she was doing as it didn’t stimulate her creativity and imagination. She now travels around the nation consulting companies and studios as well as giving talks to academic institutions, completely unafraid of speaking and fighting for those who cannot or may not be heard around the world.
