Valentine’s Day: Find your look now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

Valentine’s Day…the most potentially wonderful oftentimes underwhelming and disappointing day of the year. An excuse for shopaholics everywhere to either spend on a date-night look, or spend as a treat to themselves because everyone is fabulous and deserves to look (and feel) their best regardless of evening plans or lack thereof.

Believe me, I am on board with this. Though the holiday is hugely commercialized and no one seems know for sure why it exists in the first place, it does exist and I love it.

Regardless of how you feel about love, whether you’re in it, out of it, skeptical of its existence, you have to admit it this holiday is a great excuse to engage in capitalistic activities.

If you plan to indulge in a shopping extravaganza to celebrate how wonderful and worthy of love you are (which I will be doing), celebrate with a S.O. via date night, or just want to dress up and go out with friends, it is possible to do this without breaking the bank.

Thrift shopping!

Total heart eyes.

Today’s Valentine’s day look is brought to you almost entirely by Goodwill (sweater & jeans, shoes from elsewhere)! Being the sucker for a girly Valentine’s Day outfit because I am corny and ridiculous, I decided to go for a light look with a fuzzy pink sweater and baggy mom jeans.

Casual & Comfortable

This look is simple and do-able for an active lifestyle.

If I were to transition this into date night attire, I might add a necklace, switch the jeans out for a skirt and tights, throw on some heeled booties and call it a day.

Setting out on a thrift shopping spree, the most important thing to keep in mind is you can’t have your heart set on finding one particular item while going into the store. This is important. Getting your hopes up about finding something in particular generally ends in frustration and a let down. Not exactly the type of relaxing vibes shopaholism is supposed to provide right?

For this look, what I found was a sweater (which is just as comfy as it looks,) and jeans, which are similarly comfortable. I had no idea what I wanted going in, but was pleased with what I found.

You won’t find something you’re in love with every time

We’re talking about a store whose merchandise is essentially items that are no longer wanted by their owners. But, there will be times where you do get lucky and find an outfit that is just what you wanted.

For moments of great frustration the best advice I can offer is simply try it on! While the sweater I wore I was able to eyeball for sizing, the jeans I absolutely had to try on, and even then was on the fence about.

Sometimes, you’ve just got to go for it and buy the damn pants.
