Sammi Says: Relationship Problems- Out of the Honeymoon Stage

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

Dear Sammi,

Lately, I have been noticing that my relationship has fallen out of the “honeymoon stage.” We’ve been together for almost three years, and I’m scared that I might never get that spark back. How do I rejuvenate my relationship?

Sincerely,

Scared and Spark-less

Dear Scared and Spark-less,

I know that this is a tough time in your relationship. The good news (or bad, depending on how you view it) is that most long-lasting relationships experience the end of the “honeymoon stage.” This means that you two are taking things to the next level and are serious about your feelings for each other. It isn’t easy to go through, but it is worth it, as long as your relationship is healthy and making you happy.

A couple of things that you can do to spice up the relationship is plan special dates or surprises for your significant other. Try to be more spontaneous with new ideas and gifts. For example, I surprised my boyfriend with Taco Bell the other day (it’s his favorite!) because I missed him during our busy week, and I don’t think I’ve seen that much love in his eyes since the night he asked me out…

A nice trip to the city or beach or even a simple dinner can be exciting for the both of you, as well, especially if you rarely get time alone. Save up some extra cash together so you’re able to afford a nice night away.

Also, make sure you guys get some time apart. If you notice you’re getting bored of always being together and watching Netflix all day, go out with your friends for a night or spend some time with family members you haven’t seen in a while. It’s all about balance!

Don’t fret and try not to overanalyze anything; just be sure to communicate your feelings. You two have accomplished three years together, despite the morning breath and quirky habits you’ve both learned to love about each other.

Props to you guys!
