Sammi Says: Dealing with Feeling Drained

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

Dear Sammi,

I need a getaway…Unfortunately, I’m not going anywhere this spring break because I have no money and have tons of homework. I thought that I’d have some time off for once, but of course I’m bombarded with this work. What can I do to relax a little, despite the amount of things I need to get done, and despite the lack of money I have?

Drained

Dear Drained,

I know exactly the feeling! It seems we can never catch a break, huh? Not even during spring BREAK.

Something I always try to do is avoid procrastination; that way, you won’t have all of this work hanging over your head like a threatening storm cloud the entire week. This weekend, take some time to relax a bit, and then focus on your assignments all of Monday. That way, you’ll have a some time to rest before diving into it all. And once you’re finished (hopefully by Tuesday), you can enjoy the rest of the break.

There are also tons of things to do without spending money, like walks in the park or coffee dates (not too expensive), or even day trips to the beach with a friend, reading on the sand and kicking a soccer ball around.

Plan one exciting thing to do at some point over break as well, so you have something to look forward to, even if it’s just sleeping all day and watching Friends. That’s exhilarating, right?

Just remember to take some time to unwind and catch up with family or friends. Do not overstress yourself—you deserve some time to yourself!
