DIY Cropped Tee

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

The cropped tee. A springtime staple for when you need to throw something on on your way out the door without thinking, and a personal favorite of mine. And what’s a tee without a funny graphic am I right? So I went on a mission to find a fun tee that I could crop myself and provide a DIY post for those who want to do it too!

So I went to Goodwill on Dollar Sunday and checked out the tee-shirt options. (In case you don’t know what Dollar Sunday is, it is a promotion at the thrift chain Goodwill that makes certain color-tagged items $1 on Sundays). Now, I don’t think bullying is any laughing matter, but I do think the bee graphic is absolutely hilarious.

When you go to cut a shirt, there are a few things to take into consideration. Not only do you have to figure out what length you want to crop it to, but you also need to figure out if you plan on cutting the sleeves and if the fabric will hang well after being cut.

The first step I took was cutting the sleeves. I cut them just above the seam, mostly because I wanted the sleeves to match the hem of the bottom of the tee.

For the other sleeve, to make sure it is cut at the same length I lay the excess from the first sleeve on top of the second and use that as a template.

After doing this I cut the bottom of the shirt right below the graphic. I usually would try the shirt on to be sure I got the length right and would normally recommend doing the same, but in this case I based my choice more off of the graphic.
