Dance Away Cystic Fibrosis

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.
1. How does PRSSA prepare for this event? what is your role specifically?

I’m the Director of Philanthropy for PRSSA, which means any community service falls under my responsibility. PRSSA (and myself) have been working on this event since May or June of last year!

2. What can people expect from the event this year? ( what will there be to do)

This is the third year! We’re very excited about how the event has taken off. We have a very packed schedule; performances from 3D dace, the Dance Team, and Profecy; Rec Center Fitness instructors teaching zumba, line dancing, and a step warmup; and a litany of raffle baskets from Walgreens, Outback Steak House, and Forever Young. Be sure to visit Colette’s Memorial, a corner of the group fitness room dedicated to the life and legacy of Colette.

3. What exactly is “Dance Away Cystic Fibrosis”?

Dance Away Cystic Fibrosis is an annual fundraiser, completely committed to raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Colette Bleistine’s honor. The fundraiser was erected three years ago when Colette passed away from a life-long battle with Cystic Fibrosis. She was completely committed to doing good for the world. Even though she was in the hospital, she’d buy clothes for a homeless girl who frequented the outside of the children’s hospital in Philly. At 22, she had accomplished so much.

4. Why was this event started at Rowan? are there other similar events at other schools/locations?

This event was started to continue Colette’s work in raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. While there are not similar events in other schools or locations, we are hoping to make Dance Away Cystic Fibrosis increasingly bigger and better to garner more awareness and encourage more people to support the cause.

5. What can people do throughout the year to help this foundation other than just on this one night?

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is always looking for donations, as well as volunteers and runners/walkers for their 5ks. For more information on the events the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation sponsors, visit http://www.cff.org/Chapters/delawarevalley/
