Rejuvenate Your Face with This Unexpected Ingredient

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rochester chapter.

Every morning when I wake up and every evening as I get ready for bed I wash my face…with oil. Yes, you read that right – I use oil to wash my face. Now, I’m not talking about olive oil that you would find in your pantry or cupboards. What I’m talking about here is cleansing oil, which is (in my opinion) one of the best types of cleansers out there.

I know what you’re thinking – how on earth can slathering oil on my face clear it up? I admit, it does sound far-fetched at first, especially if you’ve got acne or oily skin. But there is actually science to back this up!

Cleansing oil mixes with the oil that’s already on your face – be it naturally produced or oily residue from makeup – and takes away all of the oil we dislike (the oil that causes those dreaded pimples) as it’s washed off. Other cleansers tend to strip the skin of oil that it does need, causing the skin to overcompensate and produce even more oil. Cleansing oil, however, keeps the skin balanced and hydrated.

Furthermore, cleansing oil takes with it any stubborn and residual traces of your makeup that your makeup remover just couldn’t get. Mine has even taken off my Stila 24-hour liquid liner – and I had almost given up on getting it off my face!

To top it off, many cleansing oils have added antioxidants and other ingredients that help improve the skin’s overall appearance. There are a wide variety designed to address an array of skin care issues from wrinkles to hyperpigmentation.

I personally use the Face Shop’s Rice Water Cleansing Oil, but that may not be the right one for you. If you do use a cleansing oil, comment your thoughts/opinions on yours below!
