The Uber Experience: Lynx Cats Tell All

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rhodes chapter.

Rhodes students share their weirdest Uber stories.

I’ve experienced some interesting Uber rides over the past few years.  I met one Uber driver who had gone to Harvard (and tried to give me legal advice), and another who played Celine Dion the entire ride and we didn’t speak a word to each other.  If you’ve ever had a ride in an Uber, you probably have a good story to tell.  Here are some of the finest Uber tales that Rhodes students have to offer.

Enjoy.

“I had an uber driver offer me free condoms one time… and I also had one uber driver take me through Taco Bell and he made me buy him food.  Oh, and one time an uber driver got pulled over so we had to get another uber to rescue us.  He was driving on the wrong side of the road.” – Arden Tahtinen ‘19

“One of my ubers in Greenville, SC had a flashing light that changed colors and he said he was ‘trying to set the mood’” – Sarahanne Vaughan ‘17

“What the heck is Her Campus.” -Tate Sledge ’16

“One time our uber driver sang Dora the Explorer with us this summer!! We started screaming “swiper no swiping!”. -Arianna Amini ‘17

“Charlie Paul lost 900 dollars and never got it back haha.  He forgot.” -Tyler Douglas ‘17

Charlie Paul has reviewed this statement amended: “I lost some money, but not nearly that much”.  He also gave some other information which I found too explicit to include in this article.

“My uber driver had bear pepper spray.  She told me it was strong enough to take out a 400 lb bear.” -Nathalie Vacheron ‘17

“I guess my weirdest experience was one time an uber driver picked me up really late from a friend who’s a girl’s house and he was like ‘did you get it in’ and I was like ‘no’ and he said ‘ the things we do for love’. And then nothing else was said the whole ride.”  -Bennett Notestine ‘17

“I had this one lady who was convinced we knew each other and I never corrected her because I felt weird about it and she kept telling me stories/inside jokes about the last time I was in her uber.  I just went along with it.  Her name is Audrey.”  – Alexandra Greenway ‘17

“I don’t think I remember a single uber drive.” – Nalan Callonas ‘17

“One time my friend started puking in an uber car and he tried to kick us out.  So I had to pay him $10 so we could stay in the car.” -Hogan Crosby ‘17

“One guy hit on my friend so much he got lost and almost took us downtown.  I had to pull out the directions and guide him back to the house.  Then, another guy also hit on my same friend and he asked her for her number and then added her on facebook.  She gets hit on a lot.” -Danielle Wilson ‘17

“So we got an uber to take us to a River Kings game and it was lit.  She pulled up outside of West Village in a minivan and there were LED lights inside so it was basically a party uber.  She took us to mini mart and we bought Dr. Pepper and crushed it on the way to the game.  She gave us the AUX cord.  We were having too much fun drinking Dr. Pepper in the uber so we didn’t tell her to take the highway exit and she kept driving us around for awhile.  We showed up to the game halfway through.” – Nick Rocha ‘18

“One of my uber drivers gave me coca cola.” -Bonnie Whitehouse ‘18

“An Uber driver once licked a lollipop for me.” -Patrick West and “Anonymous” ‘17

“I take an Uber with Gabe and two random people.  We are going to Huey’s to get cheese fries, and we decide to take a cactus from the backseat.  He has four cacti ready for the taking.  We take one and go into Huey’s.He then follows us because the cactus is missing.  He demands $20 for the cactus from Gabe and we both pay him $10 for the cactus.”  -Zac Lange ‘17

…But Uber riders aren’t the only ones with entertaining stories to tell.  While I unfortunately do not spend enough time in Uber cars to compile an entire article of quotes from Uber drivers, I was able to collect these stories:

“One time I was picking up this couple and they asked me if they could put some stuff in my trunk because they were moving.  I agreed, and it turned out they had been using Uber to move.”

“One time a woman in her early thirties wanted to ride around with me.  I told her that would cost her a lot of money, but she told me ‘no, I just want to ride around with you’.  I told her that my wife probably wouldn’t like that and I dropped her off at the next stop.”

“Before I picked you up, I actually just picked up three drunk nurses and their male boss from a hospital.  They were still wearing their scrubs and the nurses were taking their boss downtown to buy him drinks.  I didn’t ask.”

So there you have it.  Uber is not just a ride.  It’s an experience.  Happy Ubering and thanks to all of the students who shared their favorite Uber stories with me (‘preciate ya).
