Public Service Announcement: Beware of the Black Legging

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rhodes chapter.

The staple item of the season has always been the black legging. They are THE most dependable item in every girl’s wardrobe that you can dress up or down. These cozy, comfortable pants are a go to item that can be paired with a variety of tops- not to mention the stretchy, spandex quality makes most everyone’s behind look damn fine.

However take caution when purchasing these trousers. Unfortunately not all leggings are created equal.  Some leggings lose their stretch over time due to regular use and laundering. To help a sister out, we made a list of some trustworthy brands to purchase tried-and-true leggings.

Lovable Logos

Calvin Klein, Addidas, Nike, Reebok, Puma, and PINK all offer leggings in a variety of colors adorned with their brand name. These have been a big hit this year and especially now the holiday season is around the corner, these stores are offering special promotions on their merchandise.

Athletic Style

Lululemon is definitely a favorite on campus whether you workout in these leggings or not.  Other brands that sell similar active wear pants such as Athletica, Gap’s GapGit line, and Champion. These can be purchased at most sports stores like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Academy Sports and Outdoors, and even the Bass Pro Shop.

Casual

Most of these companies are located inside malls or shopping centers: American Apparel, Express, J.Crew, Kohl’s, Old Navy, and more. You can even search black leggings on Amazon.com; be sure to check out the customer reviews. Use your Rhodes student email to use Amazon Prime with free shipping.

Beware: Target is typical stop on everyone’s errands. However, brands such as Xhilaration and Momissmo have inexpensive leggings but are notorious for being far too see-through.  On a college budget, Target leggings are tempting so if you can’t resist, we suggest you wear a longer shirt, sweater, or sweatshirt to compensate for the sheerness on the rear.

Hi! I'm Nathalie Vacheron, a senior at Rhodes hailing from Germantown, Tennessee. I love to write, I love to edit, and I'm in love with the voice Her Campus gives to women across college campuses. In addition to Her Campus, I'm involved in my sorority, Tri Delta, work in the Counseling/Health Center, am a First Year mentor, and love to run when I can. I'm a Business & Commerce major concentrating in management with a minor in Psychology. I hope to go into health administration, community health, or work for a non-profit (and write a book somewhere in-between...) xoxo
