Studying Abroad as a Black Student at RhodesBy November 30, 2011 - 6:04pm At Rhodes College, a vast number of the student body participates in at least one study abroad experience before they graduate – whether that be for a full semester or a May-mester. Unfortunately, this large group does not constitute many Black students. The question has been raised as to why that is. Treshain Norfleet, a junior going on the Egypt May-mester, said, “Well, I feel like the main obstacle is money. We would like the opportunity to go, but we just don’t have the funds. Also, it may have something to do with not knowing the steps to be able to go abroad. The fear itself of going abroad and being in uncomfortable surroundings comes into play as well." READ MORE |

Happy Fall Break!By October 16, 2011 - 2:00pm Well, it has finally arrived. That sacred four-day weekend that we at Rhodes seem to treat like Spring Break. It seems Rhodes students have an uncanny inclination to take any opportunity to get off campus, for even a day, as some major holiday. People are packing up their dressers, putting their bikes on their car, using up their milk, defrosting their fridges. It’s just 48 hours, but all the sudden it’s like the end of the world or summer is next week. Everyone (including myself I should add) is saying, “Happy Fall Break!” “What are you doing for the break?” “When do you leave?” “I need to see you before you leave!!” (Cause it’s going to be a whole five days before we see each other again!) RIM is on the lookout for network hackers, but has found no evidence to support such a claim. The company is currently trying to remedy the problem and find its source. ... |
