Dear Regent Roomie,

There was no way to know what to expect when I came to Regent University for the first time. I knew nothing of how to organize my time, navigate a social life, or just live on campus as an adult away from my family. It’s been an interesting journey so far, and I’m glad to be making it with you.

I remember reading my housing assignment for the first time over the summer. There was your name on the screen, but I had no clue about the beautiful person behind the name. I remember messaging back and forth with you about plans for our room on Facebook and starting to think that we might really get along. I didn’t know how it would turn out at the time, but now we’ve basically become family.

Over the course of the semester, we’ve learned a lot about sharing, being considerate of each other’s time and space, and simply understanding each other. It’s no surprise that, living in the same dorm, you’ve seen me at my worst. You’ve seen my grumpiness and how disheveled I look in the morning. You know my habits and strange little quirks, like my tendency to burst into song at random times or cry at chick flicks on movie night. You know what makes me tick as well as what ticks me off. I may not always be sunshine and smiles, but you know you love me anyway.

I enjoy our conversations between classes and homework, and having someone to talk to about my day and share theirs with me. Sometimes I’m not in the best mood, so thank you for putting up with me nonetheless. Thank you for listening to my drama. Thank you for being there for me, and I hope you realize I’m here for you whenever you need it.  If you ever need to rant about a tough day, week, or month, I’m here.

I really appreciate your advice and insight when I’m stressed or confused, and thank you for listening at just the right times. I particularly enjoy the deep conversations we have at two in the morning, plus the laughter, the playful teasing, the reassurance. Thank you for looking out for me.  We may not always agree on everything, but I know we’ve got each other’s back.

With much love,

Your Regent Roomie
