This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

All around college campuses you will see students carrying plastic water bottles out of convenience. While plastic water bottles may be convenient for use, they are really bad for you in various different ways from individual health concerns to the environment you live in and depend on.

  1. The plastics used to create the water bottles can become harmful and toxic if heated or reused many times.

  2. Plastic water bottles are destructive and lethal for the environment in which you live! Most plastic bottles do not make it to the recycling bin, and are thrown out to the garbage.

  3. Plastic water bottles are too expensive, you can save a lot of money by buying a reusable water bottle.

These are just 3 reasons on how using plastic water bottles can affect you, there are a lot more. Here are some tips for making sure you are drinking safe and toxic free water.

  1. Get a reusable bottle made of aluminum or steel with the addition of a filter. There are many ways you can make a water bottle fun. You can decorate it with cool stickers, and make it your own!

  2. You will save money! Very important for a college kid in a budget like myself.

  3. When you put a stop to your use of plastic, you will reduce the amount of harmful toxins affecting your body. Some of the side effects are not even known yet, but some toxins can drastically increase your risk of various cancers.

Water is extremely important to your health but there are ways in which the consumption can limit your harmful affect on the environment and your own body!
