It’s been a little more than a week since everyone was stressed out, sleep deprived, and on high end about finals. The past week was crazy hectic for every student and many of us were just relying on winter break as hope. Being this was my first college finals week, here are some things I have learned.

1.The Library Gets Packed

Unless you are willingly to get up at 8 am and take a hike to the library, chances are there are no seats left by the time you are all set to go. The library becomes a mad house filled with most or nearly all of the students at Quinnipiac. Instead of going here to study, some other places are upstairs at the Student Center, the Piazza, and the Engineering wing of the Communications and Engineering building. All of these locations provide tables and seats where you can concentrate and study, and it even allows you to study with friends and be able to communicate. And if you are itchy to get off campus, you can catch a shuttle to Barnes and Nobles and grab a table and coffee and knock out all your studying.

2.Don’t Sit Near the Windows

My roommate and I learned a very valuable lesson and that is to not go near the windows during finals week. It is highly distracting, especially if there are animals hanging around the trees and ponds. Itll sidetrack you from what youre supposed to be doing and then 4 hours will go by and youll realize you are only on your second definition. Grab a seat in a closed in, non-distracting area that way you will be almost forced to concentrate on your work.

3.Start Studying Early

If you have multiple finals/papers coming up, dont wait until 4 days before your tests to start studying. Get a head start and begin studying a week or so in advance, that way you wont have such a heavy work load on your back and feel drowned. By the time test day comes, youll be set and will know everything you need to know.

4.Manage Your Time

This is a key factor for studying for finals or even just for those weeks where you have a lot going on. Plan out a schedule for when you are studying for what, that way you feel organized and on track about what you need to accomplish. Don’t cram everything into one day but rather break a big load into small easy-accomplishing pieces.

5.Relax

Mental. Health. Is. Very. Important. Do not study for 12 hours and then come back to your dorm to only repeat the cycle in the morning. Take a break, hangout with friends, watch a movie, do something stress-relieving! Studying all day without really doing anything is just going to make you overwhelmed and more uptight. Even if it only for an hour, take some sort of break to refresh your mind.
