Film Review: The Longest Ride

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

On April 10, the latest Nicholas Sparks movie “The Longest Ride” hit theaters across the country, and let’s just say cowboys and bull riding will melt your heart!  The movie, originally a book written by Sparks, is about two couples: a young, college-aged couple, Sophia and Luke and an elderly man named Ira and his late wife, Ruth.  “The Longest Ride” tells the story of Luke, who is trying to make a comeback into the world of professional bull riding after a horrific accident during his last ride.  He then meets Sophia, a college student who is soon graduating and planning to move to the big city.

Ira had just been in a car accident and was luckily found by Luke and Sophia.  He soon starts to form a bonding relationship with Sophia, who reads the letters Ira wrote to his wife every year for their anniversary.

The movie goes on tell the love and life of Ira and Ruth through flashbacks to the ‘30s and ‘40s, as well as the struggles and moments of happiness between Luke and Sophia.  Like any Nicholas Sparks movie, there is always something that pulls the girl and boy apart, and that was definitely the case here between Luke, Sophia and bull riding.

“The Longest Ride” was a decent movie, but like any movie that was originally a book first, the book was a million times better, in my opinion.  The movie showed viewers what it is like to love someone more than anything else and how that love can make you do anything to always make that person happy.  As any movie based off a book sometimes does, it changes some things and leaves out a lot, which was a downfall.  But the best part of the movie was the lead male, Mr. Scott Eastwood!  His smoldering good looks and chiseled body would make any girl wish that she was Britt Robertson.

So, collegiates, if you love a good book, I suggest you go read “The Longest Ride.”  But if you are sappy romantic like myself and love a good-looking lead male, then I recommend that you have girl’s night and go see “The Longest Ride” in theaters now!
