7 Ways to Finish the Semester Strong!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

Do you suffer from summeritis? Not sure? Well, the symptoms are: daydreaming about the beach, the strong urge to wear shorts with flip-flops, and the late nights that don’t involve studying. If you answered yes to any of these, then you are a victim!

It’s nearing the end of the semester and you can feel the summer vibes pulling you in. But, when you look at the calendar, you realize that the summer is a month away. Seems long? It really isn’t!

As much as you want to mentally check out for the semester, you can’t! So how do you finish out the semester strong while battling summeritis? Here’s how:

Find a support group: This shouldn’t be too hard. It’s possible that some of your friends are also suffering from summeritis. Help each other out by scheduling days where you guys can find a quiet place, and get some work done! Before you all know it, this last month of the semester will fly by.

You did 7 months already, 1 more won’t kill you: Look back at how far you’ve come! Look at all the papers and projects you have accomplished! Don’t let all your hard work go to waste because of one month between you and summer—you can do it!

If you’ve given it all you’ve got, don’t be angry and give in: Often times, people get angry and throw in the towel when they don’t get the exact grade they want. Don’t forget that grades do not dictate who you are as a person! If you give your work 100% then you should be satisfied knowing that you worked hard, and didn’t slack off. That B+ may not seem as appealing to you as an A+, but just remember all of the work you put into getting that grade!

Your phone can be of use: I never utilized the calendar, notes, or even my alarm clock on my iPhone until I came to college. I put reminders of when to study, when assignments are due, and test dates in my phone. If you constantly have your phone near you, then you should do the same.

Sticky note it:. To make sure I don’t forget important things, I put sticky notes on my mirror, wall, and desk. It’s also a great idea to put inspirational quotes on them to get you through this last month! You can even get creative and create a countdown until summer (though that would require lots of sticky notes).

Get enough sleep:  I can’t stress this enough. If you aren’t getting enough shut eye, it’s possible that you won’t be able to work to your full potential. Just because there’s a month left in the semester, doesn’t mean you can skip out on sleep. Don’t sabotage yourself—catch some zzzzzzz’s!

Most importantly…have fun!: Don’t get too caught up in your work that you forget to kick your feet up! Reward yourself! If you work hard Monday-Friday, then you deserve the weekend to pamper yourself, catch a movie, or even go out with friends.

We can do this, Collegiates! Let’s finish strong!
