10 Reasons Why College Friends Are Friends for Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

Looking back on my high school years, I remember asking my father about his college experience, mainly because I was excited to get out of my town and experience a new place with people from all over the country.  One thing that has always stuck with me is my father saying, “Your college friends are your friends for life.”

Never did I understand this statement until I started my college journey in the fall of 2013.  With that being said, collegiates, here are 10 reasons why I believe college friends are forever:

1.     They don’t judge you for your bad habits, like binge-watching Netflix when you should be doing your econ homework, or stress eating during finals week.

2.     Speaking of eating, they’re always down to order food.  They’ll get Chipotle with you after class or order Dominos after a late night.  With the pizza and cheesy breadsticks comes hours of lounging around and having drunken heart-to-hearts.

3.     They understand all aspects of you because you either live together or are with each other 24/7, so they’ve seen you at your absolute worst and loved you at your best.  Even at your worst, they’re there to take care of and comfort you.

4.     You’re always having a laugh, whether you’re just having a girls night in watching movies, getting dinner, or going out to a bar on the weekends.

5.     There’s no petty competition.  You understand that you’re all completely different individuals.  You’re able to genuinely praise each other’s achievements and triumphs.

6.     They want you to look and feel your best, so naturally they let you dive into their wardrobe when you’ve run out of outfits to wear.  They also motivate you to be the best version of yourself on the inside and out.

7.     They’re brutally honest in the best way possible.  They’re one of the few people (or persons) who will actually tell you what you need to hear.

8.     They’re going to be your future bridesmaids at your (first) wedding…and your second.  And they’re going to throw you an awesome bachelorette party for your last night as a single woman.

9.     You could spit out the most bizarre facts about your college friends.  You know what foods they like and dislike, their drama from home, their pet peeves, and their pet’s names.  You could basically participate in a friendship version of The Newlywed Game together.

10. Unlike your childhood friends, your friends from college have only known the adult version of you, compared to the awkward adolescent you were in middle school.  The you that you are now and the beliefs, values, and morals that you hold will likely remain consistent for most of your life.  This is the real version of you that your college friends have come to cherish and love.  They’re basically your soulmates.

“College friends become family.  You eat together, you take naps together, fight, laugh, cry, and do absolutely nothing together until you can’t remember how you ever lived your life without them in the first place.”  Ahhhh…so perfectly true, Bobcats.
