Top 10 Best Throwback Movies to Watch with Your Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

It’s getting to that time of the year again, when the weekends aren’t as packed with events like Halloween and Homecoming. November comes around and the desire to trek out in the cold on the weekend to stand in line at Ale or Stages seems far less appealing. A night in with a good, classic movie that you loved in middle school sounds like the perfect plan for when you need to de-stress after midterms. So, here are some of the best movies to put on and eat an insane amount of junk food to with your friends.

1. Mean Girls

This is cliché but it is probably one of the best movies of our generation. It’s an easy pick because everyone can quote it and reminisce on the hundred other times you’ve seen it.

2. She’s the Man

Another masterpiece of our time, this movie is seriously one of the funniest out there. Plus, you get to re-live the old Amanda Bynes.

3. The Parent Trap

One of the older ones on this list, but it is a clear winner. You can always remember the most heartwarming scenes, and swoon over Dennis Quaid.

4. Easy A

If your friend group is in need for some serious girl empowerment, pick this one. The main character Olive is extremely relatable and bound to make you remember all those similar times in high school.

5. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

A quintessential best friends movie is what you’ll get from watching this. It hits all the feels and makes you want to go to Greece immediately.

6. Sleepover

I remember watching this one back in elementary school, so you know it’s one that will be full of early 2000’s wardrobes and slang. It’s a lighthearted and easy movie to watch while talking to friends.

7. 13 Going on 30

One of my all-time favorites, this one depicts the future of being an adult and how we probably all still feel towards it, either 13 or 20.

8. Legally Blonde

You’ve never felt more love for a girl than for Elle Woods. She is the epitome of a badass and will make everyone laugh the entire time.

9. Cinderella Story

This one really pulls on the heartstrings and makes you wish Austin Ames went to your high school. Every young girl wanted to dress up like Sam Montgomery at the Halloween dance.

10.  Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging

I’m still not sure if this has been watched by many people or not but this is by far my favorite throwback movie. I have watched it close to a hundred times and can quote it start to finish. It reminds you of all the struggles and excitements of growing up, and there’s a high chance you’ll fall in love with Robbie.
