The 7 Things I Love About Purdue

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

Purdue is an amazing place and I can’t imagine spending four years anywhere else. As a sophomore I’m still finding different things that I love about college, specifically Purdue. Here are 7 things that I have fallen in love with at Purdue:

1. The People

When choosing a college, the people had a really big impact on where I attended. I believe that the students make up the culture here at Purdue. Purdue’s campus is incredibly diverse, with around 122 countries being represented according to the Fall 2017 Enrollment and Statistical Report. It’s kind of crazy to me how amazing the people here are. I love how campus feels like a big community, everyone is so welcoming and brings something new to Purdue.

2. Things to get involved in

There are so many different clubs and student organizations on campus, it is impossible to find something that I’m not interested in. With around 1,000 organizations, there’s always something to join and participate in.

3. Campus

Purdue’s campus is gorgeous. I love the brick buildings, though at first every building looked the same to me. My favorite time of year on campus is winter for sure because the snow makes it look like a winter wonderland! Not to mention the fact that Cary Quad really does have a resemblance to Hogwarts and that Windsor is definitely a castle in its own way.

4. Study Spaces

Although sometimes I feel like there’s no place for me to study on campus, that’s definitely not true. Sometimes it can be insanely hard for me to find the right environment to study in, either a place is too distracting or it just doesn’t have the right vibe.

However, I’m still discovering so many great places to work at, like Krach or one of the many computer labs here on campus.

5. Boilermaker Special

Like many others who have lived in the dorms, I have a love-hate relationship with the Boilermaker Special. I love seeing it coming down the road, blasting tunes that’s hard to not sing along to and tooting the horn. But when I lived in Earhart, every game day morning it became an extremely loud alarm clock that tooted without fail extremely early on a Saturday. I also love watching the Boilermaker Xtra Special drive onto the field before the start of a football game

6. Amazon

Same day shipping and free shipping are magical things. I love having two Amazon pickup stores right on campus, especially because it’s so convenient with having the app on my phone. I can just pop in and scan my phone and have my package within 5 minutes. With everything that I could possibly want on Amazon it’s great having a place on campus where I can ship things to and get fairly quickly.

7. Food/ Meal plans

Food is a necessity and having great places to eat on campus was important to me when choosing a college. When I first arrived as a freshman I got to experience the different ways I could use my dining dollars and meal swipes. One of the places I love spending my meal swipes on is the Daily Bite. It’s a great place to get a quesadilla with chips and queso. I also love how we can use our meal swipes at the Union. It’s great for when I’m not near a dining court or when I can’t find anything that I want to eat at the dining courts. Another great thing about the Purdue’s meal plans, is that I can use dining dollars pretty much anywhere, such as Starbucks, the restaurants in the Union, and even at Third Street Market.

With hopefully only two more years left at Purdue, I can’t wait to discover and fall in love with new things.

I think it’s important to think about what makes our school special to you, so what are the things that you love about Purdue?
