No plans for the summer? Not a problem in good ole Indiana!

With summer right around the corner it’s time to start thinking about some fun summer plans. Going on vacation to another state or country is usually the first thing on everyone’s’ list. But there are some of us who don’t always go somewhere exotic with white, sandy beaches and, sadly, have to stay in Indiana. It isn’t that terrible because Indiana is more than farmland and corn fields… right?

Here are five great things to do this summer in Indiana that won’t break the bank.

1. The Indianapolis Zoo: One of the best things to do over the summer is going to the zoo with your friends or family! With adult tickets ranging anywhere from $12-$20 and child tickets from $10-$15, the zoo is a lower cost option if ordering tickets online. Once inside, you can see the hundreds of different species and over six different exhibits housing animals that you can’t see everyday!

2. The Indiana Dunes: Dreaming about white sandy beaches? Well in the dunes are the closest you’ll get if you’re staying in Indiana. Located on the southern tip of Lake Michigan in northern Indiana, the Dunes are nothing but 15 miles of sandy beaches and miles of great hiking opportunities. Plus, the Dunes are one of the top five family beaches of North America! If the Dunes aren’t a great way to soak up some sun without busting your budget, then I don’t know what is.

3. Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari: Want to go to an amusement park but don’t want travel too far? Holiday World is just the place for you! This amusement park can be found in Santa Claus, IN and is home to several top-ranked roller-coasters like the Voyage and the Thunderbird. Not an adrenaline junkie? That’s alright, because not only does Holiday World have a world class water park but it also has a Christmas themed village which is a wonderful place to walk around when the sun becomes too much. And hey, you can’t go wrong with free soft drinks, sunscreen, and WIFI, right?

4. White River Canoe and Tubing Company: Having some thoughts on where to go tubing this summer? Well the White River Canoe and Tubing Company has you covered. Located in Noblesville, IN which is just 30 minutes north of downtown Indy, you can fulfill your tubing adventures on the 1-3.5 mile stretch of river. Just take in the sights of the White River and enjoy a relaxing, lazy day with friends and family. Not into tubing? No problem! The White River Canoe and Tubing Company has kayaks and canoes that can be rented for half a day or a full day depending on how long you want to be out there.

If money is hard to come by and if some of these things are hard to do on a budget, going to a neighborhood pool or hiking through the beautiful state parks in southern Indiana are great alternatives to the more pricey options listed above. But don’t worry, just because you’re in Indiana for the summer, doesn’t’t mean you don’t have anything to do.
