Being a Type-A personality, as told by Monica Geller

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

“I’m a Type-A personality,” we’ve all heard it before. Either you love it or you hate it, but you can’t deny the ambition behind it. For those of you like me, a Type-A from head to toe, it’s rare to see a character that encompasses all that drive. But in NBC’s famous sitcom “Friends,” Monica Geller is pretty much the epitome of a Type-A girl. So, without further adieu, here’s being a Type-A personality, as told by Monica.

You’re a bit of a workaholic.

Why would you take “free time” when it could be “paid time?”

When it comes to group projects, you’re always the leader.

Being a boss is second nature to you.

You know that over-prepared is the only way to be.

“I don’t know” is never an acceptable sentence.

Relaxing can be a little difficult.

Is there a guidebook on how to unwind? Instructions would be helpful here.

You can get a little intense when things don’t go your way.

“Controlling?” You prefer “enthusiastic.”

When you find something good, you know it’s good.

If it passes your standards it has to be.

You’re a realist (and sometimes a catastrophist).

“Yeah, but what if…” is one of your favorite sentence starters.

Competitiveness? We have a winner.

“Winners never quit and quitters never win.” – Vince Lombardi

Your planner is your lifeline.

Knowing your weekly (or yearly) schedule is the best way to stay organized.

Finding someone who also color-codes their day is a dream come true.

Now you can track your friendship on matching spreadsheets!

Letting things go doesn’t come easy to you.

Remember that thing they did to you five years ago? Of course you do.

Perfectionism is your middle name.

If they say perfection is unattainable they clearly haven’t seen your organizational skills.

Rules have always been your friend.

Controlled fun is safe fun!

You tend to push for the last word in an argument.

“I know you are, but what am I?”

Admitting to your faults isn’t the easiest.

As much as you hate to hear it, you can’t make everyone happy.

Though you rarely admit it, sometimes you just need a hug.

As long as it doesn’t take up too much precious time.

“Complicated” doesn’t faze you.

Let’s alphabetize our points to keep them in order.

Sometimes being you can get a little overwhelming.

Don’t worry – you can handle it.

Your loyalty to your friends is unmatched.

Your ambition comes second only to those you love.

Whether you’re Type-A, Type-B or somewhere in between, you’re sure to find a “friend” that speaks to who you are. And for those of us like Monica, it’s important to try to relax once in a while… even if we’re not very good at it.
