Welcome back Penn State! Whether you’re a freshman or senior, you know that Penn State has a lot to offer. With classes in full swing, it’s easy to forget all the fun that happens here. There are so many amazing things about our school, so we’ve compiled a list. Get ready to learn the ABC’s of Penn State!
A – Alma Mater
Nothing can give you the chills like hugging fellow Penn State students while 107,000 people belt out the words, “May no act of ours bring shame, to one heart that loves thy name. Thou didst mold us dear old State. Dear old State, dear old State.”
B – Blue Band
If you’ve ever had the privilege of seeing the Penn State Blue Band perform at halftime or pump up the crowd before a big game, you know that they are the backbone behind our Fight Song, Alma Mater, and every other important song that is sung here at Penn State.
C – College Ave
College Avenue truly has it all.
D – Diner
Grilled stickies. Need I say more?
E – Eisenhower
So many cool comedians, so little time. Eisenhower Auditorium has been home to some pretty cool performers and shows over the years.
F – Football
ARE YOU READY FOR PENN STATE FOOTBALL?!
G – Game day
Game day means tailgates, and honestly, could any Penn Stater ask for more?
H – HUB
Start at Panda Express and try to make it through the Hub without getting a flyer thrown into your face, all while trying to avoid the Starbucks line and make it to the High School Musical steps. If you succeed, reward yourself with some Jamba Juice.
I – Ice Cream
From flavors like Peachy Paterno to Alumni Swirl, everyone is sure to have a favorite flavor. Did I mention that they take meal points?
J – Joe Pa
Joe Paterno is a legend at Penn State. With 409 wins during his time as head coach for Penn State football, he is widely known and loved.
K – Kiwi
Because there is no better place to meet up with that old friend from freshman year.
L – Loops (Blue or White)
Whether you ride the Blue Loop or the White Loop, if you’re on the bus after ten on the weekends you’re sure to have a good time singing, chanting and making new friends on the bus.
M – Mount Nittany
Mount Nittany offers one of the best views in State College, and is a favorite hiking spot for Penn State students.
N – Nittany Lion
Penn State’s mascot, the Nittany Lion, is a staple of our school. The one-handed push-ups and crowd surfing are traditions that will put a smile on your face.
O – Old Main
When you walk past Old Main, you can’t help but be proud of how beautiful Penn State is. Nothing beats laying on Old Main lawn and hearing the bell tower chime every hour.
P – Penn State
Becasue, duh.
Q – Quarterback
Christian Hackenberg is the definition of a Penn State celebrity. We will surely miss seeing him proudly wear number 14 this football season!
R – Rec Hall
Home to the National title winning Penn State Women’s Volleyball team and a crowd favorite for the ‘Return to Rec Hall’ basketball game
S – State College
How many other schools have a town named after them?
T – THON
Catch thousands of Penn State students rocking the Bryce Jordan Center in a 46 hour no sitting, no sleeping, dance marathon that is the largest student run philanthropy in the world – all in support of pediatric cancer. FTK!
U – Unrivaled
Penn State always keeps it classy, and definitely lives up to it’s title of “unrivaled”.
V – Vamos Chariot
If your feet get tired, don’t worry because you can always hop a ride on the bike you see lit up, blaring music around campus. Nothing is better than high fiving the Vamos driver. #Goals
W – We Are
Heard near and far, if you ever hear someone yell out “WE ARE” you are obligated to answer with “PENN STATE!” Don’t forget the “thank you”!
X – XL Pokeys
Thursday special, anyone?
Y – Yummy Food
Whether it’s the dining commons, a restaurant downtown or chicken baskets from Beaver Stadium, there is never a shortage of yummy food at Penn State!
Z – Zombie Nation
Whether you’re at a football game or a party, you know that when Zombie Nation comes on it’s a requirement to jump around as much as you can and shout “We Are Penn State!” at just the right time in the song (because no other words fit in there quite as well.) Nice try though every other school!
