5 Struggles of People Who Hate Eating Healthy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

If you’re like me, you know the benefits of eating healthy and you know you should at least try to eat healthier – but you just can’t. The delicious tastes of food that are bad for you are just too tempting. You find it hard to understand how people can munch on celery sticks and dried fruit while you shovel goldfish into your mouth. You’re constantly in pursuit of food of that excites your taste buds, and you physically can’t pay attention to calories. But the life of loving cookies, Pringles and carbs doesn’t come without a few struggles, and if you can’t escape the unhealthy diet lifestyle, than these are a few things you can probably relate to:

1. Anything green makes you squeamish.

Salads and vegetables are your worst nightmare. The texture and the look of such a healthy meal makes you uncomfortable. No one should even expect you to order a salad on a date, because you swear your body rejects anything green. You order a sandwich but pick every vegetable off, stripping it down to just meat and cheese. It’s really not easy being green.

2. You don’t understand the allure of green juice, matcha, or kale.

This trend is just something you can’t wrap your head around. You love lattes, but can’t swallow matcha to save your life. You’re a juice fanatic, but don’t get why anyone would put vegetables into something so delicious. And you are not even sure what exactly kale is.

3. You’d take ice cream or pizza over a healthier alternative any day.

Most people opt for a healthy alternative to junk food, but you welcome it with open arms. While some people find delight in Halo Top ice cream, you break out the Moose Tracks. Though there is nothing wrong with Greek-style pizza, with its feta cheese and spinach – you devour slice after slice of greasy, cheesy pizza.

4. You can only drink coffee if it’s filled with sugar, covered in whipped cream, and drizzled with chocolate.

You’re that person who orders the most sugar-filled drinks on the Starbucks menu. S’mores and double-chocolate Frappuccinos, caramel lattes, anything with way more additives than there is coffee – is your drink of choice. When the barista asks if you want the whipped cream, it doesn’t take you more than a second to respond with “Of course”. The more it tastes like a milkshake, the better.

5. Your cool ranch Doritos bag will never be as Instagram-worthy as an acai bowl.

You stalk food Instagram accounts and are jealous of how aesthetically pleasing other people’s meals are, but you would still sacrifice an Instagram opportunity for McNuggets or donuts any day. Though they may be pretty, acai bowls and avocado toast are better suited for Instagram than your stomach, and you struggle to give up tasty goodness in exchange for the perfect Gram.

All in all, you’re in love with food – regardless of its health benefits or lack thereof. You’re in a relationship with food and you care about taste, and that’s completely ok. Don’t feel the need to deprive yourself of something you love; just remember, it’s all about balance!
