The 15 Stages of Thanksgiving Day As Told By Blair Waldorf

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Ah, there is nothing quite like Thanksgiving Day. The sweet aroma of seasoned turkey and flavorful stuffing fills the air, and you are surrounded by your favorite people in the entire world. However, although there are many happy moments on Thanksgiving Day, there are also some pretty hectic moments. No one else can quite relate to the different stages we all go through on Thanksgiving Day better than the Queen Bee herself, Blair Waldorf. After all, it’s her favorite holiday for a reason.

1. Pure Bliss

On Thanksgiving Day, you cannot help but wake up happy. I mean c’mon, this is the only day of the year you can all indulge in seconds, thirds and let’s face it, fourths. No one feels guilty about how much they stuff their faces on Thanksgiving!

2. The Catch Up

Today, you see all your closest friends and family members that are normally miles away from you. Thanksgiving is all about reunions and catching up with all the people you have been going crazy without.

3. The Swerve

People are asking for your help in the kitchen and to help set up the table, and you are kind of just running around like a turkey with its head cut off. Maybe they won’t notice that you have been placing napkins on the table for ten minutes now.

4. Football

Whether you love football or not, football on Thanksgiving is the exception. What is better than watching men getting tackled as the smell of turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes fill the air?

5. Sass

Didn’t they say dinner was going to be done “an hour ago” like two hours ago?

6. Sadness

All these Thanksgiving commercials with families laughing and eating together just is not cute anymore – the laughing child eating his mashed potatoes seems to just be mocking you and your hunger right about now.

7. Denial

You are not even frustrated that you have not eaten yet anymore – you cannot even function at this point. You are just kind of sitting there staring blankly at the football game that is in front of you.

8. Excitement

Dinner is finally served, and you basically sprint from the couch into your dining room.

9. Love

When you finally feast your eyes on the food in front of you, it is love at first sight. Do you know any love greater than your love for food?

10. Indulgence

You finally get to dig into the delicious food, and you honestly cannot recall a time when you were happier than this moment right now.

11. Betrayal

As you dig into your third plate, you just want a little bit of mashed potatoes to top you off. As you go to reach for it, someone has beaten you there to it and takes the last spoonful…

12. The Standstill

All of a sudden, you come to the point where you cannot eat even a crumb. You look at that steaming, mouthwatering stuffing just sitting there. You urge your stomach to make room and to be just as hungry as you were before, but you’ve officially hit your limit. Hey, even the best fall down sometimes.

13. The Food Coma

You physically cannot move from the table. You just sit there and look at the messy table and your satisfyingly empty plate. Then someone tries to talk to you, and you politely silence them so you can fully enjoy this moment.

14. The Self-Pep Talk

You know dessert is coming out, and you’re pretty sure not eating apple or pumpkin pie smothered with whipped cream is a crime. Your stomach can yell at you tomorrow because not making room for dessert is for the weak.

15. The Second Wind

And all of a sudden, your mind and body does a 180, and you are rejuvenated! You take seconds on desserts, and you are even contemplating about heating up the leftovers in the fridge and making another Thanksgiving dinner plate – it doesn’t get much better than this.

If only every day was as perfect as this wonderful day. Honestly, what is better than food and family?

You know you love Thanksgiving.
