15 Reasons Why Canning Is The Best Thing Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Fundraising season for THON 2015 has already begun and this weekend is the official start of canning. Canning is one of the greatest ways to raise money for THON, but it really isn’t just about raising money. During canning trips, I’ve bonded with some of my friends and I’ve made plenty of new ones. Although canning can be hard work, it’s definitely all worth it. Here are 15 reasons that will get you even more pumped for canning and fundraising season:

1. The car rides to your destination are filled with endless jams and karaoke tunes.

2. Canning means you can show off your killer dance moves to attract attention.

3. And if you’re a horrible dancer, then you can impress people with your adorable costume skills instead.

4. When you get a $20 bill or higher you feel accomplished.

5. Canning is a group effort.  If you start to get tired, just remember that there are other people doing the exact same thing as you.

6. If you’re lucky, people will give you free hot cocoa for your hard work.

7. After a long day of canning, you will have a lot of self-gratification from all the good you did for the kids.

8. You will make some of the best memories.

9. After a long day of standing near an intersection, you get to come back to a home-cooked meal.

10.  Even though you may be sleep deprived, it feels worth it.

11.  You have an endless amount of time to play Cards Against Humanity, Mafia, and any other fun games you can think of.

12. You will bond with your friends and make plenty of new ones.

13. Sometimes your host family has pets, so you get to spend lots of time with cute fuzzy animals. What’s better than that?

14. At the end, it’s always exciting to count the money and see how much your group made overall FTK!

15. When your group reveals the canning total you will feel directly involved with the success of THON because you helped make that happen. Every canner has a part in the grand total.
