10 Songs to Get You Through Midterms

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Midterm season is finally upon us. Whether you need a late-night energy boost or some motivational songs to write to, we’ve got you covered, collegiettes!

1. “Run the World” – Beyoncé

Would a playlist be complete without Queen B? Beyoncé gives us the pep talk that we need. “Who are we? What we run? The world!”

2. “Walking on Sunshine” – Katrina and the Waves

This super peppy song is guaranteed to make you feel good. You’ll be walking on sunshine to your midterms.

3. “Leave the Night On” – Sam Hunt

“Leave the Night On” is my favorite song on the playlist. This song is insanely catchy and the sweet sound of Sam Hunt’s voice can motivate you through all your midterm crises.

4. “Edge of Glory” – Lady Gaga

While the full content of this song is deeper than midterm season, some of the lyrics can be related to this dreadful test-taking season. “I’m on the edge of glory and I’m hangin’ on a moment of truth.” You’re on the edge of beginning a career, and these tests can determine your fate. But don’t worry collegiettes; we’re all hangin’ in this moment with you.

5. “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

This inspiring duet is about conquering obstacles that stand in your way. That organic chemistry midterm or history paper can’t keep you from getting to where you want to be.

6. “Girl On Fire” – Alicia Keys

This is the song you need to listen to before you take your midterm; Alicia Keys will definitely give you the strength you need to persevere. “Oh, she got both feet on the ground/ And she’s burning it down/ Oh, she got her head in the clouds/ And she’s not backing down.” Girl, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish if you set your mind to it – you are on fire.

7. “FourFiveSeconds” – Rihanna

We’ve all had to take that one class you hate. It’s that geography course you thought would be an easy Gen Ed, or that ridiculously hard calculus class for your major. But, you’ve made it to the midway point, collegiettes! Now you can count down the seconds until you never have to take this class again.

8. “Stronger” – Kanye West

When you’re staring at your computer screen, so stressed that you don’t even know where to start studying, – listen to this song to motivate you. “Now that that don’t kill me/ Can only make me stronger.” You can survive midterm season, and you will be a stronger person because of it!

9. “Beautiful” – Christina Aguilera

While this song is more laid-back than others, Christina Aguilera eases you into the perfect mood to study. No matter what comes your way, remember you are beautiful in every single way.

10. “Footloose” – Kenny Loggins

This is the song that you should listen to when you finish all your finals. You’ve been working so hard – you deserve to cut loose!

Happy listening, collegiettes!
