Those brows are not filled in by genetics and that perfect, winged eyeliner is more than just a steady hand.

Makeup is a beautiful tool for Collegiates from all over to use to express themselves. Now, makeup is not for everyone and it shouldn’t have to be; feel free to let your natural beauty shine! Makeup is meant to be fun and can be used for a little confidence boost, but by no means is it something girls must make part of their everyday rituals. #nomakeup #nofilter

However if it is part of your everyday ritual, this is the article for you! There are many tips and tricks to using makeup that every beauty connoisseur should know. The most sought after look nowadays no longer focuses on the eyes, but what is right above them.

BROWS-

There are many products avaliable to get that beautiful brow, but the main trick is to define the shape, but do not overly fill in front of the brow or it will not look as natural. Our staff recommends the Hourglass Arch Eyebrow Pencil, the Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse or the Anastasia Beverly Hills: Perfect Brow Pencil.

EYELINER-

To wing, or not to wing? That is the question. That winged look is taking over, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a must. Sometimes a simple lining paired with a red lip does the job. But, if you want to go all out, a good trick when doing a wing is to follow the angle of your eye. Personally, I start with my wings first to make sure they are even before lining my lid. But for those of you who might struggle a bit more with getting that perfect retro look, try using tape! Tape can be a great tool to get those even lines, just look for a tutorial on YouTube. Recommendations for eyeliners are Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner and, my personal favorite, the L’Oréal’s Infallible: The Super Slim.

EYESHADOW-

Eyeshadow can teeter on a very fine line. When done correctly it can make all the difference to a look, but when done incorrectly…. Let’s just say no one purposely tries to look like a raccoon. When using eyeshadow remember that less is more, and the better it is blended, the more put together your look will be. Also, if you are having a problem with your eyeshadow creasing, check out an eyeshadow primer. Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion will keep every particle in place all day long! And to go on top, we recommend one of the Kat Von D Beautiful Eye Shadow Palettes.

LIPSTICK-

Lipstick can be used to either finish, or make a look. Recently, matte lipsticks have been very popular, as well as the always-in-style bold red lip. A quick tip when wearing lipstick is to put some foundation on your lips beforehand so it doesn’t bleed onto your skin throughout the day. Our favourite lipstickes are the NYX and Etude House: My Blooming Lips. You’ll be totally kiss-worthy in no time, mwah!

CONCEALER-

Oh how we love our concealer! Because let’s face it, those bags under your eyes aren’t designer, like you say they are. When applying concealer again, less is more. To get that perfect application, dab a small bit on your fingers or onto a blending sponge and gently rub it onto your face to make sure there are no sharp edges. Our recommendations are Maybelline’s BB Cream, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and Bare Minerals Liquid Foundation.

BRONER AND BLUSH

Unfortunately, not all of us were born with naturally flushed cheeks, and skin that holds its sun-kissed look all year. But have no fear, bronzer and blush are here! However, apply with caution, because it’s especially easy to over use these products. When applied correctly, brozer and blush can warm up your look, and give your face more dimension, but using too much can look extremely unnatural. To avoid that, do not bronze your whole face, just apply to where the sun would naturally hit. A great trick is to start at the top of your forhead, and on the right side of you face, apply the brozer in the shape of the letter B” On the opposite side, apply in the shape of the number 3. Using this application technique will assure that you’re bronzing in the most natural spots, the hairline, the cheek bones, and the jaw line! For bronzer, we reccomend the Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel bronzer. Finish off the look by lightly dusting a small amout of blush on the apples of your cheeks. Personally, we love the Becca Mineral Blush in Flowerchild.

The main thing to remember when using makeup is to have fun with it! Cultivate your look, and own it!
