Care to Share that After-Sex Care

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PS Behrend chapter.

I love sex, but I’m not super crazy about missing out on valuable after-sex cuddle time in order to go take my after-sex pee, but I do it anyways because I know I need to (and also because I’ve had one UTI and I never want to feel that pain again). What I didn’t know, most likely from my Catholic school sex education, is that there are many things I should be doing after sex in order to properly care for my body. Yes, sex is great, but taking care of yourself after sex so that you can continue to have great sex is even better. So, without further to do, here are five things you should be doing after sex:

1. Wipe down/rinse off with unscented soap

You just received a lot of love down in your lady parts and with all that love comes bacteria whether it be from fingers, mouths, or penises as well as different bacterias from your derriere (Idk what you’re into, but I don’t judge). Hit the showers, Collegiettes, and grab a warm washcloth and some unscented soap and gently clean yourself up, but don’t worry about internal cleaning – your vagina will take care of that.

2. Soak in a bathtub

Okay, so we don’t all have a bathtub available (shout out to the on-campus housing), but when you do have a tub, take advantage of it and treat yourself to a nice soak in the warm water with a dash of extra virgin coconut oil. Doing this will not only hydrate your skin, but it will also soothe any swelling or irritation that occurs after your no-pants-dance.

3. Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug!

Depending on how you feel about your latest partner, you might want to chug a nice bottle of cheap tequila or bleach, but since we’re making healthy choices here you should really reach for a nice, cold pint of water. You just had a bit of a rigorous workout (you burn over 144 calories per half hour of sex) and need to hydrate!

4. Have a snack

Everyone loves a nice after sex snack, but instead of ordering a pizza or digging into the leftover Chinese, go after probiotic-rich foods. Enjoying fermented foods such as yogurt or kimchi will help replenish your body’s good bacteria which will decrease your risk of a yeast infection.

5. Go commando

After cleaning up reach for your favorite loose fitting pants (if you really want to turn him on, your finest sweatpants will do the trick) and some nice cotton underwear to help air out your vagina and keep it dry, but going commando is best for optimum air circulation.

Bonus: Go pee and then crawl back into bed with your water, your snack, and your favorite sweatpants and have a nice after-sex nap with your favorite person.
