With all of the crazy websites and news articles out there in the Internet, it is easy to find yourself lost in some interesting articles. One of these articles happened to be a a rather controversial news article entitled “The Human Barbie.” In an interview with GQ Magazine earlier this month, Valeria Lukyanova, a 28 year old Ukrainian model, opened up about her bizarre and dangerous habits.
Valeria is real. She is a young woman who strives in every aspect of her life to look like a Barbie doll. She has had several cosmetic surgeries including breast implants, and she abides by an insane diet known as “breatharianism”. This diet is just as crazy as it sounds—she admitted that she would consume no food or water in an attempt to live exclusively on light and air. She even went on to reveal her “repulsion” for children and her disgust for mixed races. Valeria is a good, yet very serious example of how society today has skewed today’s idea of the “perfect woman”.
With the media constantly bombarding us with images of photo enhanced models, it is hard for girls to remember that this isn’t true beauty. Beauty comes from the inside and there is no amount of plastic surgery that can change this. It is important to remember that beauty is all around us, and this beauty will never come from a plastic toy. The lifestyle that Valeria has chosen to lead is neither healthy nor realistic.
