Chris Baker ’15 and Jimmy Butler ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Providence chapter.

Jimmy and Chris have had their own radio show on campus for two semesters. They are currently juniors on campus and look forward to taking on their senior year. Jimmy is a member of the men’s swim team while Chris is finishing up his year as a Bedford R.A. We asked them a few questions to learn more about their radio show.

Majors?

Chris: Marketing/FinanceJimmy: Rocket Science

How many semesters have you had your own radio show?

2 Semesters.

Jimmy: Kenny Chesney, Coldplay, O.A.R.Chris: Mat Kearney.

How did you come up with your show title?

Chris: We were bringing the feel good on Friday mornings.

What artist would be your dream spring concert?

Chris: Jason Aldean & Luke BryanJimmy: O.A.R.

Why did you decide to have your own radio show?

Jimmy: We wanted to GET THE PEOPLE GOING .Chris: We really wanted to show people some of the hidden gems out there that many people would never hear.  It has been awesome having multiple people come into the station every show saying how much they enjoy the music we play.

What kind of music do you normally play?

Chris: Anything, and we mean anything, Indie to House to Country to Oldies to Boy Band Pop to line dancing with the Cha-Cha Slide. Our show is centered around brand new Indie and House music, but some days we start feeling a different vibe, and see where it takes us, sometimes Aaron Carter, sometimes the Macarena.Jimmy: Anything we feel like on that specific day. Mostly House/Indie/Country/Throwbacks.

What do you do on your radio show?

Chris: Give shout outs, and play jamzzz, we like to bump it really really loud in the station and kind of wake people up and get them groovin’ to the tunes we’re playing.  Some people love it so much they start dancing while studying, that’s a feel good Friday.Jimmy: We play the music really loud and watch people dance and stop in the studio to tell us we were doing a good job. One time, one of the Dunkin Donuts employees gave us the thumbs up. It’s definitely a plus when we see and hear that.

What are your plans for your future shows?

Jimmy: We certainly want to keep the feel good songs playing and maybe even have guests come in to talk about their weekend plans.Chris: Keep the beats bumping and the indie vibes flowing, we’ve had a blast so far and it has been an awesome experience.

What is your favorite thing to do on your show?

Chris: Play throwback songs that get people popping into the station reminiscing over the song.Jimmy: We love playing the throwbacks that everyone knows and loves. It’s also a blast to talk on the mic and let the city of Providence hear what we have to say.

Tune in to WDOM 91.3 on Friday’s from 10 A.M. – 12 P.M. to hear Jimmy and Chris and have a Feel Good Friday!
