What to Keep in Your Interview Bag

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

‘Tis the season for job applications! Whether you are applying for a summer job, and internship, or your first career-focused job, it can be stressful, especially the interview process. There are countless things to remember and decide, such as what to wear, how you’ll answer the questions and remembering to print your resume. But, having all the essentials in your bag will make the process less stressful and you’ll know you’ll be able to handle any situation that comes your way. Here are all the goodies you should have in your bag so you can go in prepared and confident you’ll rock that interview!

1. Portfolio

Everyone needs a sleek Portfolio, whether it’s just a black folder or something nicer, this will show the interviewer that you came prepared and are organized. It’s also a great place to keep your resume so it’ll stay crisp and clean.

2. Notepad

Write down questions that you would like to ask your interviewer, so you won’t forget them during the interview. You’ll also be able to write down any useful tips or information that you get and be able to review them after.

3. Chapstick

There’s nothing worse than going into an interview with dry chapped lips. Keep a chapstick in your bag to keep your lips hydrated and ready for talking!

4. Pen

You’ll need something to write down all of the important information that you won’t want to forget! Bring a spare just in case the first one runs out of ink.

5. Deodorant

Interviews can make the most even relaxed person nervous and a little sweaty. Keep some of your favorite and best-smelling deodorant in your bag to use right before you go in, and you’ll stay dry and confident throughout the whole interview.

6. Mints

This one is important! Eat a mint before you go into your interview! Having fresh breath will leave a great first impression and start your interview off on the right foot. Nobody wants to smell your morning coffee.
