Outfit of the Day Inspiration: 03/28/2012

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

WEDNESDAY- Turquoise!

Turquoise is one of those colors that are always cheery and eye-catching, no matter how one rocks them.  Here are two looks inspired by this amazing hue, each on a different end of the turquoise-potency spectrum!  And just a reminder, always feel free to leave comments or suggestions on what inspires you, and what you might like to see more or less of.

Outfit #1: Total Turquoise!
If you are fortunate enough to own a sweater or top in this color, here is a fun way to wear it.  Major bonus points if you have killer shoes to match!  Pair the top with a neutral, swingy skirt and a long, pretty necklace.  A basic brown bag gives a touch more depth and variety.  Note: this is a terrific way to showcase any favourite color, turquoise or otherwise.  An outfit built around your color of choice can put you in a good mood and give you confidence all day long!

Outfit #2: Touch of Turquoise!
But if you are perhaps a tad color-shy or lacking in any clothing items this shade, try incorporating it into your outfit in a more subtle sense.  The outfit is made entirely up of neutrals, serving as the perfect canvas upon which to showcase such a stunning turquoise necklace.  It becomes the focal point and reinforces the idea that an outfit can be made or broken by one’s accessories!  I like the contrast of an oversized red bag for carrying your books, which works because red and blue are complimentary colors.  If you wear dark non-denim pants instead of jeans, this look could be functional for field experience or a job as well.

Hailing from eastern Washington, Julia attends the University of Portland in Oregon, as a Communication Studies major with an emphasis on Journalism. As a magazine and book junkie, Julia reads everything (and anything) she can get her hands on, especially those passionate on young adult culture and entertainment. A woman that gets stir-crazy easily, Julia has been fortunate to have traveled many summers in a row to foreign countries, including a study abroad course in Austria, Germany, and Great Britain. Since a ripe age, she has grown and cultivated her passion and dream of working for a magazine and spreading awareness as well as happiness through the tips of her fingers. Always finding time for herself, Julia can frequently be found quoting movie lines (most frequently Will Ferrell or Vince Vaughn), having a 90's dance party with her roommates, or rereading "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" for the 40th time.
