How to Rock Valentine’s Day as a Single Lady

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

For us single ladies, Valentine’s Day probably isn’t our favorite holiday, but really why shouldn’t it be?! There is nothing wrong with being single, and we should celebrate that single status! Even if you’re perfectly happy being a single lady, that doesn’t mean you are excused from being asked some classic questions. Here’s how to handle these questions:

1. When someone doesn’t understand Galentine’s Day

Seriously! Celebrate Galentine’s Day with your besties. Listen to Leslie Knope, she knows what’s up. Go eat as many waffles as you can and just have a good time!

2. When someone asks you why you’re single (aka every single person’s favorite question..not)

3. When someone asks what your Valentine’s Day plans are

The number one thing to remember during this Valentine’s Day is to go out and have fun! Get your group of gal pals together and do something! Here’s a couple ideas to get you thinking about how to spend your night:

  • Have a spa night complete with nail polish, facials, and loads of food.
  • Host an I-Hate-Valentine’s-Day party like Jessica Biel does in the movie Valentine’s Day.
  • Go watch the newest movie to hit the theaters. One that’s coming out soon is called How to Be Single. That sounds like a great girls night movie to me!
  • Go on an adventure! Hiking? Sure! Exploring downtown Portland? Why not! Skydiving? Go for it!

Whatever you do, don’t focus on how you aren’t in a relationship. Instead, embrace being single and celebrate friendship!
