How to be Your Own Valentine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

My friend reccently introduced me to the idea of “Valen-mine Day”. I think being your own Valentine can take a lot of stress out of the holiday and help you focus on self love! So if this is your first time celebrating “Valen-mine Day” then follow these helpful tips to make sure your celebration is a hit!

1. Take yourself out to dinner…

Stare lovingly into your own eyes.

2. Buy yourself flowers…

3. Buy yourself candy…

I already do this everyday, so one more box of candy couldn’t hurt.

4. Go to a movie alone…

5. Watch your favorite rom-com…

Cry it out in peace. Watching a rom-com alone means not having to explain every plot detail to your SO watching with you.

6. Dress up for yourself…

7. Take a moment to unwind…

Maybe you take an extra long shower? Paint your nails? Sleep in extra long? Try to relax!

8. Write yourself a Valentine’s Day card…

9. Take a super hot selfie…

This is just a no-brainer. If you’ve already followed step 6 then you’re ready for a photo-shoot. It’s time for a new profile pic anyways.

10. Write a sappy post about yourself on social media…
