There are almost 4,000 students at UP! That’s a crazy amount of people! Everyone in our community is unique in their own way and we all have our own story. Do you ever wonder about all these people? I went out and interviewed someone in our UP community. You might know this person very well, or just brushed shoulders with them on your walk to the commons. Do you know…

What year are you?

I am a freshmen.

What is your major?

I am a Biology major.

What is your favorite class?

Biology is my favorite class because learning about the intricacies of life is so interesting to me. It’s beautiful to look beyond what is in front of me. Also, connecting what I learned in high school to what I am learning in college is an amazing experience.

What is your favorite food at the Commons and/or Pilot House?

I like to get the turkey burger with a veggie pattie because they put good sauce on it.

What is your favorite part about the University of Portland?

Everyone is involved and has a passion about something. Since it’s a smaller school, there’s not really a feeling of being lost, and everyone is able to be a part of something.

What has been your favorite part about Portland so far?

I like how there’s so many different events and things downtown for a variety of interests. I went to a Mexican Cafe this weekend and there was a presentation on the Mexican Revolution and how it relates to the current events. I enjoy how people unite in these different areas to talk about what they’re passionate about. I also enjoy the food and the trees.

What is one thing you’re looking forward to doing during your time at UP?

I’m looking forward to studying abroad in Granada, Spain, because I’ll be double majoring in Biology and Spanish. I love learning about Spanish and Latino culture. I hope to possibly have an internship where I have the opportunity to use the language and expand my knowledge on the culture.
