Halloween Fun in a Dorm!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

Confined in your dorm room this Halloween? Just because you are stuck on campus doesn’t mean you can’t get into the Halloween spirit! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Decorate your dorm!

Scents are important. Although many colleges don’t allow candles, you can still buy a plug-in Febreeze to make your room start to smell like Halloween. Yankee Candles also has an assortment of fresheners that don’t require fire.

Important: coordinate with your roommates. Make sure your roommates are okay with you decorating their stuff! You can decorate with hangeables, mini pumpkins, or spook up your front door with imitation spider webs.

2. Scary movie night!

Another way to get into the Halloween spirit is to have a scary movie night. You can host one with a few friends in your dorm room, or (in most dorms) go to the basement and use the television. ABC Family always has their Halloween move marathon playing on Friday nights.

3. Who says we are too old for scary stories?

Another fun activity is scary story night. Plan a night where everyone finds their scariest story, either from their childhood or online, and sit around and spook each other!

4. Costume party!

On Halloween night, the best part is dressing up! On a college budget, it is sometimes hard to find something to wear. You can use your own items! Many college girls attended private high schools with required uniforms. Recycle your old plaid skirt into a schoolgirl costume. Mix and match your own clothes and dress up as a celebrity. Use your makeup and paint on a spooky face!
