10 Things to do this Summer if You Don’t Have an Internship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

Maybe you don’t have an internship or job lined up for the summer, but that’s okay! The UP summer is veryyyy long. But use these tips and you’ll fill up your summer with fun!

1. Read for pleasure books.

2. Develop a new hobbie/talent.

Now that you finally have some free time you can work on developing a hobbie! I always thought it’d be fun to learn how to knit, and this summer I just might start.

3. Journal.

4. Spend time with your family.

As we get older we run out of “summers”. I’ve heard through the grapevine that people in the professional world don’t get a few months off in the middle of the year. So cherish these brakes and spend some quality time with your family.

5. Explore your town.

6. Earn some spending money.

So maybe you don’t have a “job job” but if you want some extra spending money you could walk some dogs, babysit some kids, and maybe even apply to a fast food job. You’ll build character and earn money all at the same time.

7. Start (and finish) a DIY project.

8. Do something new with your look.

Summer time means less time doing your makeup and more time doing fun stuff that matters. Figure out your water-proof, no-hassle beauty look for a summer of swimming and fun.

9. Find a excersize routine that works for you.

10. Study up on your major/discipline area.

Really want to dazzle your profs this upcoming fall semester? Try learning more about your classes when you have the time this summer. Read some books in your area that actually interest you. Read books that your professors have recommended. They’re sure to be impressed.
