10 Restaurants All UP Students Should Visit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

1. Chowdah

Perfect for: When you want a really cheap, really delcious grilled cheese sandwhich. Super close to campus and located in a food cart pod so your friends can have other options while you chow down and Chowdah. Get it?

Location: 7316 N Lombard St

2. Mio Sushi

Perfect for: A budget friendly sushi fix near campus. Head to Mio Sushi for their happy hour and save yourself some time on the bus and some more money for more sushi.

Location: 2735 N Killingsworth St

3. Grassa

Perfect for: A ~classy~ meal that you can insist your parents buy you when they come to visit. Plus you can show them the sights of NW 23rd: a happening part of downtown Portland with fun thrift stores, great dessert places, and just a short distance to Powell’s (somewhere else you need to go).

Location: 1506 NW 23  Ave.

4. El Burrito Azteca

Perfect for: A bomb burrito close to campus. Seriously why doesn’t the caf serve burritos? Don’t worry, just walk, bike, or bus to El Burrito Azteca.

Location: 1942 N Rosa Parks Way

5. Thai Ginger

Perfect for: Great Thai food that’s ALSO super close to campus (as in it’s in the same parking lot as El Burrito Azteca). Good prices, speedy service, and lots of options.

Location: 2020 N Rosa Parks Way

6. Tin Shed

Perfect for: A great brunch place. There’s usually a wait but it’s well worth it.

Location: 1438 NE Alberta St

7. Flying Pie Pizzeria vs. Dominos

  • Flying Pie:

Perfect for: Probably the best pepperoni pizza I’ve ever had. And it’s also super close to campus, so what else do you need?

Location: 5314 N Lombard St

  • Dominos:

Perfect for: A cheaper pizza option. Is it as good as Flying Pie? No. Do they have a $7 pizza for UP Students? Yes.

Location: 4908 N Lombard St, Portland

8. Pine State

Perfect for: Biscuits everybody raves about. Literally a breakfast worth writing home about.

Location: A few, but the closest is at 2204 NE Alberta St.

9. Rimsky-Korsakoffee House

Perfect for: somewhere to go at night for all of us a part of the under 21 club. They have great desserts and a spooky, fun atmosphere. This coffee house is open 7 PM to 1 AM, has spinning tables, and a scuba diver in the bathroom. You’ll have to go there to check it out for yourself.

Location: 707 SE 12th Ave

10. McMenamins

Perfect for: a truly Portland experience. McMenamins is such a fun part of Oregon. They have concert venues, hotels, and movie theaters. Plus their tater tots give me life.

Location: So many, but the closest is at 8203 N Ivanhoe St

Honorable Mention: Salt and Straw

Perfect for: Ice cream to brag about to all your unlucky friends who don’t live in Portland. They have great flavors that are always being updated. And you’re bound to visit soon anyway so just go, okay?

Location: A few, but the closest is at 2035 NE Alberta St
