5 Fall Episodes You Need To Watch this October

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

October is officially here and you all know what that means: Halloween! Yes, that is correct, it’s time to break out your pumpkins, candy corn, spider-webs, and witches out from the closet and display them proudly all month long! While Halloween doesn’t have the music like Christmas does, it does have some pretty great fall themed episodes of your favorite shows to watch while you make your room spooky to your heart’s content!

1. How I Met Your Mother—Season 1, Episode 6 “The Slutty Pumpkin”

The HIMYM gang is always so fun around Halloween; who could forget when they all dressed up as Bender from the Breakfast Club unintentionally? But this episode from season 1 holds a special place in my heart because it shows just how hopelessly romantic Ted is, and also is right at the beginning of his relationship with Robin (who should have been endgame but it’s fine we don’t have to talk about it).

2. Friends— Season 5, Episode 8 “The One with all the Thanksgivings”

As a girl who loves comfort food, Thanksgiving is by far my favorite part of fall…Maybe not for the Friends characters. Voted as a fan favorite over the entire series, each friend shares a Thanksgiving-gone-wrong story from their childhoods. Chandler recalls his parents’ divorce, Joey getting stuck with a turkey on his head, and Monica accidentally severing Chandler’s toe because he called her fat at the previous year’s dinner. The episode ends with Monica putting a turkey on her head and Chandler saying he loves her for the first time. Your heart will be stuffed.

3. Gilmore Girls—Season 5, Episode 7 “You Jump, I Jump Jack”

While not specifically fall themed, I couldn’t resist including this episode from my favorite show. In this iconic episode, Rory Gilmore takes an assignment investigating the Life and Death Brigade as she tries to uncover exactly what it is that they do on Yale’s campus. Along the way, she meets Logan Huntzberger, a trust fund guy who just rubs Rory the wrong way. However, after being taken to the secret meeting location, Rory is surprised to find an elaborately planned event which results in her putting on a fancy dress and jumping off a wall with an umbrella (and a bungee cord) hand in hand with Logan. This is the first episode that starts their relationship that lasts the rest of series. Now we can never forget “In Omnia Paratus”, meaning “ready for all things.” the motto of the LDB and just good advice overall.

4. New Girl—Season 1, Episode 6 “Thanksgiving”

Jess Day tries really hard to impress her new boyfriend by inviting him over for Thanksgiving dinner, but that is no easy feat when her roommates are involved. Schmidt insists on cooking dinner, but keeps getting distracted by Cece, which eventually forces the whole group over to the neighbors apartment to finish cooking. Everyone seems to like Paul, Jess’s new guy, except for Nick, who acts very strangely towards Paul. We later find out it’s because Nick likes Jess, but in it makes for a very awkward Thanksgiving dinner.

5. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Last, but certainly not least, we end with a classic. Of all the Peanuts specials, this one is my favorite! I have a tradition at home where I always watch it with my mom after passing out candy to trick-or-treaters while drinking hot apple cider. This iconic film is well-known and universally loved, so chances are you’ve probably already experienced this classic!

So get out those decorations, put those cookies in the oven, and put on that Netflix, because it’s fall, it’s spooky, and Halloween is just around the corner!
