Vote Laura Spiegel for Homecoming Queen!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Before you know it, next week will be coming to a close and it’ll be time for homecoming festivities! Leading up to the big day, you’ll have from Thursday, Oct 23rd, till noon the following day to vote for Homecoming King and Queen.  This year, HC has had the pleasure of sponsoring Senior Laura Spiegel as she works hard to receive the title.  Take some time to read about the regal Miss Laura Spiegel, our Campus Celeb of the week, and remember to vote in the elections next week!

Name: Laura Spiegel

Major:  Statistics

Year:  Senior

Hometown:  Latrobe, PA

HC: What are you involved in on campus?

LS: My biggest time commitment on campus includes various service projects and events with my service sorority Gamma Sigma Sigma.  Through GSS there are so many opportunities to give back to the community!  Other than that, quite often you can catch me either studying statistics or tutoring at the Academic Resource Center.

HC: What made you decide to run for Homecoming Queen?

LS: I think the fact that I was literally born a Pitt fan and have so much genuine love for this university would probably be the main reason!  All four years I’ve been here (and even my high-school years when my sister would sneak me into the student section) I’ve rarely missed a football game.  I feel like I would be the best Homecoming Queen to represent this prestigious university because of my commitment to everything Pitt!

HC: So you have been a Pitt fan for quite some time?

LS: The University of Pittsburgh has been a second home for me for as long as I can remember!  I was that girl in middle school who never wore anything but Pitt attire.  I was proud to show off my love of the best university in the world!  I’ve never felt so honored in my life than when I first officially became a student at Pitt. I was able to carry on the legacy my family for many generations has passed down.  I bleed Blue and Gold.  H2P!

HC: Which of your activities or involvements are you most passionate about?

LS: My service sorority has an annual philanthropy event called “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” to raise money for March of Dimes which is an organization that strives to improve the health of babies by raising money for research to fight premature births and other serious problems.  In our philanthropy event, male contestants wear heels and participate in various competitions.  This is such a fun way to raise awareness and money for March of Dimes and it is an event that I feel very passionate about!  What’s better than raising money for a good cause while having a fun time?

HS: Is there anything that you hope to achieve before you graduate?

LS: Most importantly, winning Pitt Homecoming Queen 2014 would be quite an amazing thing to achieve and something I would be so proud of!

HC: Or anything fun on your Pitt bucket list that you’re waiting to cross off?

LS: Since I am a food lover, I think it would be really cool if I could say I’ve eaten at every single restaurant along Forbes Ave before graduating!  I’d say I’m pretty close to achieving that!

HC: Any plans for after graduation?

LS: I would love to take my degree in Statistics and get a job with a sports team doing sports statistics and analysis!  But my long-term goal is to become an Actuary.  I hope to stick around Pittsburgh since it has and always will be my favorite city!

Remember to vote for this loyal Panther fan as our next Homecoming Queen at the ballots Thursday-Friday! H2P!
