Spring 2013 Hair Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Spring is in the air (well, at least we’re hoping!) and that means coming out from hiding behind those winter hoods and letting our gorgeous locks shine! Get ready to try new looks for your hair that finally won’t be ruined by the gushes of wind or the snow blizzards while trekking to class. These looks are perfect because they’re so versatile and chic at the same time! Not to mention, a fresh new look is the perfect reward to give yourself for getting over that dreadful midterm week. So have a little fun with these new styles you’re bound to fall head over heels for!

  1. Head Scarves: These super easy and fun little accessories give a little vintage flair to your wardrobe while keeping fly-aways out of your pretty face. The best part: you won’t break your bank with these and you’ll definitely get your money’s worth by being able to wear them all the time! Plus, if you’re really crafty, you can make one of these babies yourself!
  1. Funky Braids: Elegance meets casual with these gorgeous looks. A fishtail braid to the side along with big bangs makes an easy transition from class to date night! Or, if you’re one of the lucky ones to be relaxing on the beach during spring break, this look will definitely have you turning heads, instead of rocking a same-old-same-old messy bun on the top of your head. This classier style lets you roll out of bed on a Monday morning, and still be able to look sexy in just a few minutes!
  1. Low Messy Knot: While enhancing all your best facial features, this low-maintenance knotted bun takes just a sec to put together and gives you a day with one less thing to worry about. Add some long earrings to this look and all the attention will be accentuated right up to your beaming smile!
  1. Sleek Ponytail: Who doesn’t like to copy the fabulous Beyoncé every now and again? Of course, queen Bee can pull off anything, but this is the kind of look that we can easily look fierce with as well! Wrap a small one-inch section of hair around your hair tie to conceal it and secure the hair with a bobby pin, and you’ll look like you just stepped right off the red carpet.
  1. Pastels!: Nothing says spring more than a splash of color. Okay, yes, this look takes a lot of guts; but the Social Media Chair of our HC Pitt team is rocking this right now, and she gets a ton of compliments on it. She says her favorite part of her new hairstyle is that: “It’s so different but great! I do miss wearing purple clothes though!” When asked who mostly compliments her new hair, she responded, “… from the most random people! … Some old and some young. It’s a mix and it’s great to see people’s reactions.”
  1. Indie Fringe: A quirky girl’s best friend! How cute is this perfectly edgy trend? Your natural beauty will radiate through when rocking this style. Wear this with a pretty collared dress and some peep-toe heels to create a lovely little ensemble. Flirty and fabulous; this hairstyle’s got it all.

Hi! My name is Amanda and I am one of the new Campus Correspondents for HC Pitt and am absolutely loving it! Helping others with advice about their articles and getting to read amazing stories has been so rewarding. I love writing about topics that make people's days just a little cheerier! Her Campus has been a wonderful experience for me over the past four years. I get to work with an amazing team every day and could not be more grateful. As a senior, looking back from where I started with Her Campus, I see how much it's changed me and all of the great friends I've made from it too. Saying HC is one of the best things that has happened to me during my college career would be an understatement! I really love how much it has grown and how much others have benefitted from their experience with our organization. HCXO <3
