Sarah Pomfret ‘16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Meet Sarah Pomfret, this week’s Campus Celeb who is extremely dedicated to serving the community and helping others!

Name: Sarah Pomfret

Year: Junior

Major: Bachelors of Philosophy in Communication Science and Disorders

Minors/Certificates: Museum Studies Minor and Conceptual Foundations of Medicine Certificate

Her Campus: What are some activities you are involved in on campus?

Sarah Pomfret: I am the President of Gamma Sigma Sigma Service Sorority. I am also part of Phi Sigma Pi Honors Fraternity and am one of the co-VPs of NSSLHA (the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association). I do research at UPMC Presby and I work in the Swallowing Lab in Forbes Tower! I don’t sleep (haha).

HC: How did you get involved with Gamma Sigma Sigma?

SP: I rushed GSS in the fall of my sophomore year. I was looking for more community service opportunities in Pittsburgh and ended up finding an amazing group of girls who shared my passion for making a difference.

HC: What is your favorite community service event that you’ve participated in?

SP: I love volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club. I always feel like I am making a legitimate difference in the kids’ lives and they are always so genuinely excited to see the volunteers. On Fridays, the kids play dodgeball and watching them get super into it makes the end of the week that much better.

HC: Why did you decide to attend Pitt?

SP: I have always been a huge Pittsburgh sports fan and hoped to one day live in the city. When I came here to visit, I fell in love with the vibe of the campus and pretty much instantly knew this was where I belonged. As an added bonus, Pitt’s CSD program is one of the highest rated programs in the country!

HC: What do you like to do in your free time?

SP: When I’m lucky enough to have some free time, I love to kayak. To me there’s nothing more peaceful than a ride down the river, listening to some good music, and taking in the view of the city. I can’t wait for it to warm up so I can get out there again!

HC: Any fun summer plans coming up?

SP: I will be studying abroad in Ireland for a few weeks this summer! After that I am planning on staying in Pittsburgh to continue my research and to go to as many concerts as possible.

My name is Melodi Reich, and I'm currently a student at the University of Pittsburgh studying Information Science. After graduation, I hope to go into a technology related field. However, writing is one of my hobbies and passions, and being a part of Her Campus has allowed me to express my more creative side through writing articles and other content. Joining Her Campus was one of the best decisions I made in college, and I can't wait to use the skills I've gained through being in this organization in the future.
