The Best Thanksgiving Recipes From Around the Web

By Michael Ploetz
November 21, 2012 - 9:00pm

I’ve been an on-again/off-again vegetarian for the past year or so, but I still love nothing more than chomping into a cheeseburger bigger than my face.  And, with Thanksgiving nearly upon us, I find myself daydreaming about that big beautiful turkey that’s waiting for me at home.   That being said, I realize that most of you ladies probably don’t have as large a penchant for animal protein as I do, so here’s a list I put together of my favorite meat-free Thanksgiving recipes from around the web.  If you’re strictly vegetarian, any one of these dishes is hearty enough to serve as your main course.  And if you’re not, then they’ll go great with the turkey.  MMMMM turkey.   READ MORE

Girls' Take On Chest Hair

By Nicole Ferrara
November 12, 2012 - 12:37pm

Chest hair on a man could be one of those “make it or break it” deals for many girls when it comes time to hit the sheets.  Despite our love and trust in Mother Nature, she does sometimes throw a curve ball at the very personal and individually articulated judgment of the male physique. Does chest hair signify manliness and maturity in your partner or does it hold claim for strictly shirt on make-out sessions?  READ MORE

Would You Rather: Be Told The Brutal Truth Or A Nice Lie?

By Kate Bilash
November 9, 2012 - 5:14pm

Like Katherine Heigl discovered in the movie, The Ugly Truth, sometimes the truth isn’t always what we want to hear. But the truth usually leaves us feeling better off… doesn’t it? Well, Heigl’s character does get the man at the end of the movie, right? The truth is hard. What I’ve come to discover over the years is that people think they want you to be honest with them, but in actuality, they really don’t want to hear it. So that makes me think – do people just want you to tell them what they want to hear? READ MORE

[Cooking With Mike] Five Steps to an Easier Ethnic Cuisine

By Mike Ploetz
October 22, 2012 - 7:00pm

Now that we're in college and many of us have started cooking for ourselves, it's time to start thinking for ourselves too. And, if you're like me (a.k.a. the "typical American") then you probably grew up with the mistaken idea that foreign food is too difficult for novice chefs like us to prepare at home. READ MORE

Frisky Friday: Midterm Massages

By Nahja Martin
October 19, 2012 - 9:02pm

It’s October, and for many of us at Pitt that means it’s midterm season. Through all the late night studying, grande cups of coffee at Cup & Chaucer, and looking through and trying to memorize slide after slide, how are you to keep the spice alive in your love life and with your significant other? How about instead of heading to that rager this weekend, you stay in one night with your honey and indulge in giving each other a relaxing massage that will both relieve you of midterm stresses, AND will set the scene for what could be a very sexy night in that will fulfill all of your carnal desires. All you need is massage oil, a roommate-less apartment for the night, and a few candles to set the mood for a romantic and steamy night in....

Cooking with Mike: When You’re Finally Sick of Pumpkin, Give These Other Fall Flavors a Try

By Mike Ploetz
October 15, 2012 - 6:30pm

We're well into autumn now (you know, the season that goes by two names where really just one would be adequate) and guess what that means - pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin! I'm sure most of you are in "pumpkin overtime" right now, feverishly mixing that beautiful canned mush into as many different dishes and desserts as you can.  Now, I should tell you that while I certainly love pumpkin-flavored [insert food or drink category here] as much as the next sane person, I think our big orange friend has been getting way too much attention lately. Your New Best Friend – The Versatile Baking Sheet!
Let’s face it: I’m cheap, you’re cheap, we’re all cheap. As college students we’re working with limited (read: Mom and Dad’s) cash, so it’s important to look for ways you can stretch your dollar. When it comes to cooking this means buying pantry ingredients and kitchen equipment that can be used in a ton of different ways. The more versatile an item, the more you’ll be able to use it in your cooking, and the more value you can squeeze out of it in the long run.
