Cultures Clothing Fashion Show and Night of Cultural Performances
Her Campus™Hosts Cultures Clothing Fashion Show
Pittsburgh, PA.– Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA 2010, Elena LaQuatra, will host the University of Pittsburgh Her Campus Cultures Clothing Fashion Show, which willinclude night of cultural performances on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 7:30PM to 9:30PM in the Assembly Room of the William Pitt Union at 4200 Fifth Ave. The event is free to all however, suggested $5 donations will be collected upon entering.
The University of Pittsburgh’s branch of HerCampus.com, the #1 online magazine for college women, will collaborate with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Pitt’s branch of the national nonprofit ‘She’s the First,’ to fundraise for young girls’ education in developing nations.
The night will consist of various cultural performances including Irish dance, the Indian style of dance called Bhangra, Pitt Dance Ensemble, Zisha Asian Fusion Dance Team, and Pitt’s Hip Hop Team. Various musical artists will add to the eclectic blend of talent, art, and beauty as the event features a rapper, an r&b/hip hop singer and rapper, and an acoustic guitar player and singer. The grand finale of the evening will be the fashion show premiering new designs from Alloyius McIlwaine’s line, Cultures Clothing, modeled by University of Pittsburgh students ranging in gender, backgrounds, ethnicities, and race to portray the beauty in diversity.
Cultures Clothingwas founded in the year 2000 by Alloyius McIlwaine. The line is representative of high fashion, urban wear, and everything in-between for men, women, and children. Cultures Clothing Company wants to show that all nationalities, cultures, or social groups have something interesting, beautiful, and valuable about them. Alloyius believes that one’s environment has just as much influence on a person as their nationality, so Cultures Clothing aims to highlight aspects of society, as well as the different nationalities around the world. Therefore, his influences and inspirations range from everything from fine art & high fashion to hip-hop and street graffiti.
In addition to celebrating cultural diversity, Her Campus Pitt will be collecting donations for the national non-profit organization, ‘She’s the First,’ who recently launched a student run branch at the University of Pittsburgh. The nonprofit’s goal is to encourage ‘millennials’ to creatively fundraise for girls’ education in the developing world. We promise to support as many girls as possible with the funds raised. We will have local businesses donate products, samples, gift certificates, and baskets that we can use to raffle off as a fundraiser.
By collaborating with The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, ‘She’s the First’, and Cultures Clothing Company, Her Campus University of Pittsburgh will celebrate education, cultural diversity, and beauty in a night that brings the students of the University of Pittsburgh together.
