Colony Café: The Purr-fect Place To De-Stress

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Coffee. Cocktails. Cats. – The perfect trio of C’s, and luckily for you, it’s right here in the heart of Pittsburgh! Bordering Downtown and the Strip District at 1125 Penn Ave, Colony Café is a must-see if you are an enthusiast of coffee, wine, and/or cats. Plus, it’s a major stress reliever – something that every college girl should get a dose of during midterm season.

The Café

As soon as you walk through the front door, you are immediately soothed by the modern, yet cozy atmosphere of Colony’s café area. Warm lighting, candles, and the scent of freshly brewed coffee gives you the pleasant, homey vibe that we all yearn for in the fall. No matter the time of day, you can enjoy their variety of drinks, ranging from a steaming hot latte or a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Colony’s savory and sweet treats are made fresh in their own kitchen. Relaxing here is effortless, whether you are chatting with your friends as you share a cheese board, or simply sipping your coffee as you watch the lively city of Pittsburgh before you.

The Cat Loft

Ascend the staircase to the loft, and there you will be surrounded by twelve lovable cats of all kinds. The ambience of the loft is very peaceful since the cats enjoy quiet, gentle interaction. There are plenty of toys and treats to grab their attention for some play time. Food and drink from the café are permitted in the loft, so feel free to sip your drink while spending time with your new furry friends! If you are not a fan of eating around animals, you can munch on your savory or sweet treat downstairs in the café. The loft is kept clean and cozy for its visitors. A staff member conveniently circles the loft to assist with any questions or concerns that you may have. And here’s the best part – these cats are adoptable! If you can’t seem to part ways with one, talk to the staff about adopting and they will go over paperwork with you.

Note: To go up to the Cat Loft, you must make a reservation online at their website ahead of time. A session with the cats is an hour long for $8 – and believe me, it is definitely worth the small cost!

For just opening in 2017, they have already been named a Best of ‘Burgh 2017 winner by the Pittsburgh Magazine and placed in the 30 Best Restaurants to Open in 2017 by Good Food Pittsburgh. Chill hangouts, date nights, self-pampering, you name it – Colony Café is the purr-fect place for it!
