Beating the Winter Blues with a Spring Closet Revamp

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Have you found yourself lusting over your warm weather wardrobe? Reminiscing on the days of denim shorts, flowy sundresses, and strappy sandals? With the official commencement of the spring season less than three weeks away and a prediction of an early spring from the ever-reliable Punxsutawney Phil, there is a glimmer of hope, my fellow frigid friends! Anxiously awaiting spring’s arrival, I have compiled three ways to use clothing as a pick-me-up while we endure the last few weeks of gloomy weather.

1) Vibrant Colors

Whether it is a daring chartreuse dress or a simpler pink blouse, adding any bright color to your outfit will serve as your daily warmth in lieu of the actual sunshine. Pairing the high-voltage hues with black, grey, white or denim will tone down their intensity and make that particular article stand out even more. If you’re feeling extra bold, pair it with another vibrant color.

2) Floral Patterns

If the flowers will not grow on the ground, why not just wear them? Whether it be roses, poppies, or daisies, these colorful blossoms symbolize springtime and are sure to remind you, and even those around you, that soon enough the snow-covered soil will be full with actual lush perennials.

3) Layering Sundresses and Sweaters

That’s right ladies, take out those sundresses from the back of your closet and dust them off, because they are getting put to use a bit earlier this season. If you find yourself bored with the usual sweater/leggings combo, pick any dress, flowy or tight, and bundle up with a big sweater and scarf. Just knowing that a sundress is underneath all of those layers will put you in a warm-weather mood. If you need any inspiration, Free People’s blog is filled with great layering ideas.
